Create a mission statement with the mentee – agree how mentoring could support their desired career/business – what is the goal for the mentee?
Agree a programme of mentoring activity which best meets the needs of the mentee – phone, video, face-to-face and how often meetings should occur.
Refer mentees to other sources of information, new contacts, advice or further support when appropriate.
Encourage the mentee to express and discuss their ideas, concerns and understanding of the situation. Address any communication breakdown immediately and effectively.
Share business and personal opportunities and contacts as they present themselves.
Help mentees review their progress and set realistic and practical options to realize their goals, reflect on things that didn’t turn our as expected. Keep up-to-date and accurate records of mentee contact and a meeting log; concerns, needs, moments of progress, ideas to help.
